Member of the Month Feb - Rachel Hind
This month we had the pleasure of speaking to Rachel Hind, Founder/CEO – Best Capital Advisory.
Briefly what is your role?
Since arriving in Singapore, I have established a subsidiary business, Best Capital Advisory focusing on sourcing Singaporean investment primarily from High Net Worth (HNW’s) and family offices into commercial property and retail developments in Australia/NZ. I have also been working with local tech start-ups who are seeking international investors and partners.
Any advice for doing business in Singapore and/or the region?
Network, network, network. I have found connecting with industry leaders, peers and complete strangers in Singapore a lot easier than back in Aus/NZ, just reach out via Linked in and ask to know more about a person’s product/offering/business, I have not had any declines yet!
When did you move to Singapore? Where from?
I moved at the end of July 2021 from Sydney Australia, I am a true expat having lived in Australia, London and NZ. Don’t mention the Hotel quarantine we had to do coming into Singapore last July, 2 weeks with husband & 2 children…..a memory I would rather forget!
Where were you born? What country do you call home?
I was born in Henderson Auckland, Gen X (without giving too much away). I always call NZ home, my home city is Wellington, went to Victoria University of Wellington for 5 years 1994-1999 (LLB/B.Com) however my family now lives in Lake Okareka.
What do you like most about Singapore?
I love the diversity of cultures, the ease and efficiency of getting around, the heat, the global opportunities, and the fact that I am now working in a top global financial & technology hub.
What do you do to relax? I like to regularly meditate, and we live near MacRitchie Reservoir/Bukit Timah nature reserve so am a regular on these walks either solo or with the family.
What's top of your bucket list? As we have only recently relocated to Singapore, I am praying for COVID restrictions to lift so we can travel extensively throughout Asia.
Why did you join the New Zealand Chamber and what do you like most about it?
I always intended to join the NZ Chamber Singapore as soon as I landed, it’s been a collaborative and welcoming community who have not only made me feel very welcome, but an organisation that delivers informative and insightful events for its members. I have become part of the MAIA working group and look forward to being of service to help deliver exceptional diversity & inclusion events.
Any last words?
I am extremely grateful for the warm welcome, the advice, the introductions and the friendships I have made so far from the Chamber committee and its members. I look forward to being an active participant, delivering service, and getting to know more lovely members, which I have not met yet.
