Tell us a bit about yourself:

Before taking on the position at the New Zealand Chamber of Commerce, I dedicated nearly five years to the European Chamber of Commerce Singapore, where I held various responsibilities ranging from marketing and event coordination to office management and administrative tasks. This multifaceted role provided me with essential skills that have prepared me well for my current position.

Briefly describe your role:

As the Executive Director of the New Zealand Chamber of Commerce Singapore, I oversee day-to-day operations, drive growth initiatives, and foster strategic partnerships within the business community while ensuring the Chamber's continued success.

How have you found your first week?

With big shoes to fill, Tahsha and the team at the New Zealand Chamber have been amazing!  Transitioning from my previous role at the European Chamber of Commerce to this vibrant organization has been nothing short of invigorating. The warmth and enthusiasm with which I've been welcomed by both the team and members has truly set the tone for an exciting journey ahead!

Any advice for doing business in Singapore and/or the region?

I believe one of the keys to doing business in Singapore is building strong relationships within the business community by engaging in industry events and attending Chamber activities.

When did you move to Singapore and where from?

I moved to Singapore in July 2019 just before COVID after spending 11 adventurous years in Jakarta. The infrastructure and efficiency of Singapore made for a smooth transition along with already having a well established circle of close friends in Singapore which really made a difference during the pandemic.

What’s your impression of New Zealand?

Although I am not a Kiwi by birth, my connection to New Zealand runs deep through close friendships and memorable experiences, such as volunteer work and events with ANZA during my time in Jakarta as well as one of my children attending the New Zealand International School in Jakarta. These connections have given me a profound appreciation for Kiwi culture and values. Since starting at the Chamber, I've been struck by the warmth and inclusiveness of the Kiwi spirit.

Where were you born? What country do you call home?

I was born in the USA where I grew up in Texas and spent many years in Illinois just west of Chicago before setting out on my expat adventures with the family. However, home base for the family is Denmark as we have a home and our youngest child living just outside of Copenhagen.

What do you like most about Singapore?

As an expat, one of the things I like most about Singapore is its strategic location for inter-Asia travel. As well as the cultural diversity that is reflected in the melting pot of people, culture and the food.

What do you do to relax?

In my spare time I really enjoy packing a picnic and heading to the beach for an afternoon spent in the sun or taking long walks around the city exploring different areas of the city and national parks.

What’s top of your bucket list?

I don’t have any bucket list items as such, but I am always up for an adventure.

Why did you join the New Zealand Chamber (Singapore) and what do you like most about it?

I joined the New Zealand Chamber of Commerce as the Executive Director because of the important role it places in fostering partnerships and collaboration as well as being a unique opportunity to leverage my skills.

What I like most about the chamber is it serves as a strategic platform for our members to connect, exchange ideas, and explore business opportunities.

Any last words?

While I am in the process of connecting with each of you, I welcome and value your thoughts and feedback in the interim. So please do not hesitate to contact me.
